Dr. Bahareh Abdi (EEE) Awarded Open Hardware Stimulation Fund for Innovative Sound Device Project
- Tuesday, 19 August 2025
Dr. Bahareh Abdi (EEE) has been awarded funding through TU Delft’s Open Research Hardware Stimulation Fund to further develop an innovative sound-playing device for education.
The project builds on a theremin-style instrument originally designed by student Inge as part of the NLT module that Dr. Abdi is developing with support from the 4TU NIRICT funding. While the current prototype is functional, the new project—supervised by Dr. Abdi and carried out as a bachelor project—will focus on improving the sound quality and extending its usability in open education.
The initiative not only enhances the theremin device itself but also contributes to TU Delft’s growing open hardware ecosystem, making high-quality, accessible tools available for both teaching and research.
As part of the program, Dr. Abdi will join the Open Hardware community at TU Delft, participating in onboarding sessions and collaborative knowledge-sharing activities supported by the Open Science Program.
This grant marks another step in Dr. Abdi’s commitment to open and innovative education, bridging hands-on hardware development with accessible learning opportunities.
