Summary:
The ECTM group at TU Delft is offering a position for a talented and highly motivated post-doctoral fellow with special interest in biomedical engineering, sensor systems, microphysiological systems (Organs-on-Chip), electrochemistry and electrophysiology.
This 3 years position is embedded in a project funded by the ECSEL Joint Undertaking Moore4Medical, and it aims to bring together industry, research institutes and academia in the development of the next generation of Organ-on-Chip devices.
We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated candidate interested in combining electrophysiology systems and microfluidic devices and enabling continuous electrical monitoring and stimulation of cells during in vitro assays.

Your role:
You will coordinate research activities to develop a self-contained and autonomous organ-on-chip multi-well plate, compatible with biological and pharmaceutical workflows. Moreover, you will be directly involved in the integration of a microelectrode array module for this organ-on-chip device. You will fabricate and optimise the device in the Class 100 cleanroom facility located in the TU Delft campus, collaborating with BIOND Solutions B.V. (http://www.gobiond.com/). This part of the project will allow you to specialise in silicon-based microfabrication and polymer processing.
Moreover, you will design and develop the characterisation set-up and evaluate the electrochemical performance of the microelectrode array embedded in the organ-on-chip.
Last but not least, the project will allow you to interact with the young and motivated research team at ECTM. You will collaborate with and supervise PhDs working on the development of multiple sensors and actuators for biomedical applications, allowing you to expand the scope of your research project.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
We encourage applications from candidates who are excited to push the boundaries of the current biomedical field, exploiting the power of electronics and sensor systems and fulfilling the following criteria:

  1. PhD in microelectronics, electrophysiology, electrochemistry, bioelectronics and similar fields;
  2. Familiarity with electrochemical characterisation of microelectrode arrays (galvanostat/potentiostat);
  3. Previous experience in PCB designing;
  4. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team setting are required;
  5. Pragmatic attitude to efficiently collaborate with companies.

The following are not required but are an advantage:
  1. Previous experience in sensor system designing;
  2. Previous experiences in microfabrication and polymer processing;
  3. Helicopter view and system thinking;
  4. Affinity with problem-solving, technology, healthcare, and industries.

The opportunity:
