MSc thesis project proposal

Designing an implantable sensor to measure the eye pressure

Project outside the university

Oftec

The assignment challenges the student to design a (transparent) microsensor imbedded into a medical device that can measure the eye pressure and is implantable into the eye. This comprehensive project also involves the following key features of this device, which are: the sensor should be small enough to fit into the eye (e.g., within an artificial lens behind the iris), it should not affect the optical and inflammatory properties of the eye, it should be easy to handle (i.e., foldable during insertion into the eye), and wireless read-outs should be possible.

Assignment

The student will conduct a thorough review of existing pressure sensing technologies, materials and signal processing techniques, followed by designing a custom hardware circuit.
