MSc thesis project proposal

Digital-input class D audio amplifier

Class D audio amplifiers are widely used in mobile phones, cars and home stereo systems. We have recently developed several state-of-the-art class D audio amplifiers, published in top conferences and journals such as ISSCC, VLSI and JSSC.

Currently all our class D amplifiers have analog input, while for mobile applications, digital input is dominant. Therefore, we would like to develop our first digital input state-of-the-art class D amplifier

Project goals:

  • Comprehensive literature study to compare different digital input class D architectures.
  • Propose a digital input class D amplifier topology that has the potential to advance state-of-the-art.
  • This project will aim for a tape-out in TSMC 180nm BCD around May 2022.
