Biography

 

Enrico Serra received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Padua in 1999 and his PhD in Industrial and Information Engineering from the University of Udine, Italy, in 2003. During his doctoral studies, he investigated the electromagnetic behavior of multistrand cable-in-conduit conductors and joints used in fusion energy systems (ITER Tokamak nuclear fusion reactor) and particle physics research. In 2004, he joined the Centre for Materials and Microsystems at Fondazione Bruno Kessler, where he contributed to the development of high-precision transducers for ground-based gravitational wave detectors. He also worked in the Cleanroom Facility as a designer and process engineer, developing MEMS sensors and silicon solar cells for concentration photovoltaics. Since 2015, he has been affiliated with the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), where he coordinates projects in quantum opto-mechanics aimed at investigating boundaries of quantum physics and gravity with ultra-coherent micro-opto-mechanical systems. He is also involved in an innovative research program with THz group on the coherent transduction of weak electro-optical signals via mechanical resonators.
