Biography

Rens Ursem - born in 2001 in Alkmaar, Netherlands - finished his bachelor Medical Natural Sciences cum laude at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2022. He then joined the TU Delft to pursue the master Biomedical Engineering (Medical Devices track). Here, he developed an interest in medical devices governed by physical principles from biophysics, optics, and microfluidics—devices whose principles captivate the imagination yet remain closely tied to patient care. Looking for such innovations for his Msc. Thesis, he graduated cum laude at the department of Microelectronics on a Microfluidic Sweat Rate Sensor for Continuous Health Monitoring. For his PhD, he will continue working with sweat diagnostics in the SmartWeave project. The goal is the realisation a smart textile sensor system for unobtrusive monitoring of sweat metabolites.
