MSc Friso Kahler

PhD student
Electronic Components, Technology and Materials (ECTM), Department of Microelectronics

Biography

Friso obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Medical Engineering from the faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Technology Chemnitz, Germany. He graduated with a Master of Science (cum laude) in Biomedical Engineering from TU Delft, the Netherlands, specialising in Medical Devices and Biomaterials. His graduation project conveyed the integration of a self-fabricated biodegradable membrane into a custom Organ-on-Chip platform. During his studies, he gained industry experience as an intern at Siemens Healthineers as part of R&D at the Innovation Think Tank.

In June 2024, Friso joined ECTM as a PhD candidate in the group of Dr. Clementine Boutry. In his current research, he centres biodegradable technologies as cutting-edged tool for biomedical applications. In a project in collaboration with the Translational Electrophysiology group at Erasmus Medical Centre Rotterdam (Prof. Natasja de Groot), he is developing novel elasto-conductive materials for the recording of electrophysiological activity of the human heart. Friso is passionate about the potential of biodegradable material as foundation for the next generation of biomedical devices, especially in the context of cardiac health.
