Communication technology unlocking the ocean – UCOMMS at the edge (Cutting Edge)

Themes: XG - Next Generation Sensing and Communication

Development of underwater communication techniques to improve the communication efficiency.

One of the main challenges for underwater communication is to guarantee a fast and reliable wireless data connection to link between underwater (acoustic) communications (UCOMMS) to above-water communications (radio, SATCOM, etc.). This data connection needs to be wireless for flexibility and scalability of the operation. As the air-water interface is typically unstable, a significant Doppler spread is introduced, severely limiting the communication bandwidth. This bandwidth limitation will prevent the use of high-data-rate.

This project focusses on the development of underwater communication techniques to improve the communication efficiency.
