Developing immunocompetent human organ-on-a-chip models with integrated lymph drainage for drug discovery and testing (LymphChip)

Themes: Health and Wellbeing

Developing immunocompetent human organ-on-a-chip models with integrated lymph drainage for drug discovery and testing.

Human disease and regenerative medicine models, including formats referred to as “organ-on-chip” (OoC), are increasingly regarded as powerful tools for drug discovery, safety pharmacology and efficacy testing, in both personalized and precision medicine. Developed over the past 10 years, they constitute an important new approach to medicine and towards the replacement of animal models. To date, however, OoC models fail to include the lymphatic and immune system, despite their essential role in health and disease.
In this NWA project, we build upon our pioneering role in the development of OoC models to create a first generation of immunocompetent human cell culture models in order to fully capture human disease, drug and tissue repair mechanisms.
