MSc thesis project proposal
[2021] Electronic anal sphincter device as a surgical treatment option for incontinence
Researchers from ERASMUS MC have designed a mechanism for an implantable anal device that will mimic the normal physiology of the sphincter muscles. The structure of the device allows for expansion and contraction of the sphincter complex, and aims to reflect normal anatomy and function. Implantation is designed to be less invasive than existing surgical interventions and linking external sphincter control with a user-interface (bluetooth connected app) allows patients to have full control of their defecation.
Assignment
The project will involve: * interactions with systems engineers from a large corporate, clinicians, and venture builders * defining the clinical user requirements * developing concepts
