MSc thesis project proposal

Readout circuit for electron-counting-detector

This graduate project will be part of a fascinating research effort in the field of integrated high-performance sensor interfaces for industrial application. The graduate student will be a member of the Industrial Electronic Instrumentation team. In close cooperation with industrial partners, in this team we are busy developing measurement instruments and smart sensor systems with unmatched performance.

In the recent years the need of highly sensitive intelligent sensors for different kind of electro-magnetic radiation has increased significantly. In this project the goal is to design and qualify an ASIC capable of counting every single electron entering the detector. The challenges are: power efficiency, speed, low-noise, two modes of operation: electron counting and linear mode. The task of the graduate student will be to design, tape out, and qualify the ASIC.

During the execution of the project, the graduate student will obtain knowledge in the fields: electron detectors, analog circuit design, working in IC design environment, performance qualification of integrated electronic circuits.

The project will be executed at TU Delft. However, due to its application nature, the master student will be eligible of receiving internship from a high-tech Dutch company.
