MSc thesis project proposal

Optical Micro-probes for Bioreactors and Fermenters

Project outside the university

Applikon Biotechnology
Measuring protein concentration provides better understanding of the bioprocess and offers more reliable monitoring data compared to cell density which is today used. For this reason, real time protein concentration monitoring system are needed in the next generations of bioreactors. An optical microprobe will be developed to measure the concentration of dirrent types of proteins in bioreactors by optical absorption spectroscopy.

Assignment

A literature study has to be done to compare different methods to measure protein concentration. The optimum wavelength for light absorption has be determined and measured. The cells that are present in the bioreactor complicate these measurements and a solution has to be found for this.
